The Music Ministry at St. Peter Parish strives to do both through the execution of sacred, beautiful and universal music for the celebration of the Liturgy. The Music Ministry also promotes and participates in other events, such as concerts and evenings of praise and worship. During this time of precautions due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the choirs are functioning on a smaller scale for all the Masses, featuring cantors, small ensembles and quartets. However, the music ministry is always seeking new members to share their vocal or instrumental talents in this glorious endeavor to praise God and nourish His people.

St. Peter Parish is forming a Children's Choir for 3rd-7th graders!
Practices will be held on Thursdays from 3:30-5 pm, starting August 22nd, in the Ministry Center.Anne Simpson, Director of Parish Ministries and Liturgy, presented a talk to the community of St. Scholastica Academy on Thursday, January 26, 2023. Her talk was about living a devout life as laid out by St. Francis de Sales in his writing Introduction to the Devout Life. You can listen to her talk HERE.
A cantor leads and sustains the singing of the assembly during liturgy and proclaims the psalm.
A cantor at St. Peter Church is required to be a parishioner of the parish, be a talented vocalist, be well prepared for their appointed Mass, have a good sense of flow in the liturgy, possess a clear speaking voice and exhibit proper poise and presence in this role of leadership.
Cantor direction is provided on an individual basis, as needed. There is no regular “rehearsal”. For this reason, many talented singers who cannot commit to a regular choir practice find that joining the Cantor Ministry enables them to use their talent to serve the Lord in a way that is flexible with demanding work and family schedules.
The Cantor Ministry is directed by Karista Filopoulos Douzat, Vocal Director of Music.

The choirs are currently rehearsing together in church one night per week all together, while breaking into smaller ensembles for singing for Mass. Choirs sing in SATB choral tradition with a repertoire that expands from chant to polyphony and hymnody.

The St. Peter Youth Music Program seeks to form children and teens in true beauty through the promotion of the sacred treasury of music which our Church affirms is its greatest form of art. This includes chant, polyphony, and hymnody. In so learning and providing this music for worship, the children will also enter in the ars celebrandi of the Liturgy, forming their own souls with, in and through the work of the Liturgy, and serving the greater community through their efforts.
