St. Francis and the Tradition of The Blessing of the Baby Jesus
The blessing of home nativity scenes is an age-old Catholic tradition, dating to the time of St. Francis of Assisi. It is believed that after his visit to Christ's brithplace in Bethlehem during a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, St. Francis was moved to re-create the Nativity Scene during a Mass. Today, this practice continues to increase devotion for the Christ child, born into the world in humility and simplicity.
Join St. Peter Parish for our annual Bless the Baby Jesus on Sunday, December 11th during the 9:30 am Mass.
Families are invited to bring the baby Jesus from their home Nativity scene to blessed during the Mass.
