Reverend Fr. Jeffrey Montz, a priest of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, and well known to our parish family here at St. Peter, has recently been diagnosed with a brain tumor. Please keep Fr. Jeffrey, his family and friends in your prayers during this difficult time. Fr. Jeffrey has specifically asked that we pray for his healing through the intercession of Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen in hopes that a miracle may be granted to advance the cause for Archbishop Sheen's canonization.
Let us pray:
Eternal Father, You alone grant us every blessing in Heaven and on earth, through the redemptive mission of Your Divine Son, Jesus Christ, and by the working of the Holy Spirit. If it be according to your will, glorify your servant Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, by granting the favor I now request through his prayerful intercession: that Fr. Jeffrey Montz will have a complete healing and recovery. I make this prayer confidently through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen.
Venerable Fulton Sheen, pray for him.
Seminarian Bosco Escrivá will be spending the summer here at St. Peter Parish. You can read a little more about him below. Please join us in welcoming him and we continue to pray for all vocations!
My name is Bosco Escrivá. I come from Spain and I joined Notre Dame Seminary to study for the Archdiocese of New Orleans. I am the youngest of 8 siblings: 5 are married (with 20 nephews and nieces), one brother is a diocesan priest, and one sister is a nun. I was raised in the Catholic faith thanks to my parents, who have always been an example of faithfulness and love. I always loved to be around friends, play sports, nature, music… and in the midst of all I grew in a deep love for Jesus and Our Lady.
God was always present throughout my childhood and youth, and I participated in many parish activities. I fell in love with the missions when I turned 23 years old, after spending 4 months in India. I helped at a boarding school and also assisted the poor with the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata. During my youth, I dated some girls, since I believed God wanted that for me. I wanted to become a good husband, and have many kids too!
It was in 2016 when God called me to the priesthood for the first time. I was shocked because I never felt the call before, but at the same time, my heart told me that it was what I had been longing for all my life. God permitted many things during that same time that ended up keeping me from the call. Meanwhile, I was working as a financial advisor and lived a normal life. Five years later God called me again. I did not want it anymore, but after a time of discernment God made it very clear: He wanted me as his priest. After visiting a couple of places in the USA, I ended up in New Orleans. On my fourth day there, during Mass, God surprised me with a big sign through Scripture. God had put in my heart a missionary desire, and now was giving me New Orleans as land, something I did not expect at all!
I have just finished my first year at the Seminary. I am the most fortunate person in the world, God has given me blessing after blessing with this vocation. I just hope Our Lady and all the Saints will help me answer the Lord courageously and without reserve.
We heed the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest, to send out laborers into his harvest” (Luke 10:1-2). It is our mission to create an atmosphere of vocation awareness by catechizing the parish faithful on what it means to serve the church through a religious calling. In recognizing that God, in His providence, is calling men and women from our parish family to serve Him in a religious vocation, we endeavor and commit to support those He has called through prayer, encouragement, and service.
November 5-11, 2023
As Catholics, we firmly believe that God has a plan for our lives! He calls some to marriage, some to the priesthood, and others to religious life. Some remain as generous single people. Fully living our vocations and teaching young people how to discern God's call is a serious duty, but also a joyful one. During this week, please pray about how God is calling you to live your vocation more deeply. Encourage the young people in your life - children, grandchildren, students, and friends - to be open if God calls them to priesthood or consecrated life.
FISH (Families Inviting Seminarians Home) was started several years ago at St. Peter Parish with the intention of giving seminarians at St. Joseph Seminary College an opportunity to get away from the seminary periodically and enjoy a little bit of "home away from home."

Jesus challenged the rich young man and in him all of us with these daunting words: "Come, follow me" (Mt 19:21). Jesus also reminds us: "A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master; it is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master" (Mt 10:24-25). Following Jesus means becoming self-sacrificing love poured out for others. It is only in this way that we can truly say with St. Paul, "It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me" (Gal 2:20).
